MALA BARKA 2 – A cross-border area project for the preservation of the naval heritage of the North Adriatic



A public presentation of the project "Mala barka 2 - Preservation of the Naval Heritage of the North Adriatic" was held on 9 November 2016, on the Botel Marina in Rijeka. The project is funded by the European Regional Development Fund from the Cooperation Programme Interreg V-A Slovenia-Croatia.

Realization of the project began after the approval was obtained at the beginning of September this year. The project duration is 30 months, until April 2019, and the total budget is € 2.2 million, of which 85% is co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund.

The project partners are Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, Kvarner Tourist Office, Maritime and Historical Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka, Association and Ecomuseum "House of Batana", Municipality of Izola - Isola, Izola Tourist Information Center, Municipality of Piran - Pirano and Maritime Museum "Sergej Mašera" Piran - Pirano.

As part of the project, Ecomuseum Batana will collaborate in the establishment of the Academy of Traditional Maritime Trades, in launching shipbuilding workshops in the Rovinj shipyard, in restoration of the oldest batana "Risorta", in organizing events related to the promotion of traditional shipbuilding and maritime heritage, in establishing an e-Center of Excellence and launching an online database of Western Istria maritime heritage.
