The 30th anniversary edition of the Forum of the Association of Mediterranean Maritime Museums (AMMM) was held from 17 to 20 September in Sant Feliu de Guíxols and L'Escala, Spain, under the motto "Sailing towards a Sustainable Future". The Forum marked a strong participation of Croatia and an important step forward in the leadership of the network.
Croatian museum professionals participated with five presentations that demonstrated innovative museological approaches in the field of sustainability, including education, gender equality and participatory approaches in heritage preservation:
-Branka Teklić (Maritime Museum Split) presented the paper "The Role of Museums and Museum Education in Non-Formal Education for Sustainable Development and Lifelong Learning", emphasizing the role of museums as a space for lifelong learning;
-Tea Perinčić (Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka) presented the paper "Formal Secondary Education and Transfer of Traditional Shipbuilding Skills", showing how museum programs connect formal education and traditional knowledge;
-Sandra Barešin (Betina Wooden Shipbuilding Museum) spoke on the topic "The Role of the Betina Wooden Shipbuilding Museum in Maritime and Environmental Education", emphasizing the importance of connecting maritime heritage and sustainability;
-Tamara Nikolić Đerić (Ecomuseum "House of Batana", Rovinj) spoke about the international initiative for the preservation of lateen and lug sailing and the contribution of this element of intangible cultural heritage to sustainable development in environmental, social and economic terms;
-Silvija Huljina (Crikvenica City Museum) presented the paper "Women Who Cooked the Sea...", about the role of women in the maritime heritage and memory of Crikvenica.
During the General Assembly, Tea Perinčić was elected AMMM President for the next four-year term, and Tamara Nikolić Đerić Vice-President, which marked the first time a Croatian duo took over the leadership of the network. Their mandate is focused on strengthening cooperation among members, exploring the role of women in maritime heritage and encouraging the involvement of young people in preservation processes, and promoting intangible maritime heritage in international and European frameworks.
The strong participation and clearly stated vision of the Croatian delegation confirmed Croatia's role as a leader in the interpretation, education and participatory preservation of the maritime heritage of the Mediterranean.
